Appeal following sexual assault in Launceston

We are appealing for witnesses and relevant footage following a sexual assault in Launceston.

We were called at around 9.20pm on Sunday 25 January following a report a 17-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by an unknown male in an alleyway by Launceston College.

The victim managed to escape when the assault was disturbed by a dog walker.

Patrol units and the force helicopter were deployed.

Following immediate enquiries, a man in his 30s was located a short time later and arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. He remains in police custody at this time.
